It is no longer news that there is a current outbreak of disease. This infectious disease caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19) has killed thousands of people all over the world and therefore was recently declared as a pandemic by World Health Organization. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the disease and its mode of transmission. To join in the combat against the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria, EPF Nigeria on the 24 April, 2020., launched an awareness/preventive/sensitization campaign “STOP THE SPREAD NIGERIA”. There are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. WHO will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings and researches are ready.

STOP THE SPREAD NIGERIA
For now, the best you can do is to protect yourself and others from this infection with the following health practices as advised by World Health Organization (WHO) as highlighted below:

1. Wash your hands
– Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and running water.
– Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer or rub.
– Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.
2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
– Your Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.
3. Practice respiratory hygiene
– Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
– Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.
4. Maintain social distancing
– Maintain at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
– When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.
5. Stay Home. Stay Safe. Save Lives.
– Do not leave home except for essential tasks such as getting groceries or seeking medical care.
6. If you show sign of the symptoms please call Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on 0800 9700 0010 or (info@ncdc.gov.ng. Social Media. @NCDCgov.)
– If you have had contact with anyone who show COVID-19 symptoms or if you have an of this symptoms fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention
-This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.
7. Check on others
– Call your loved ones and neighbors who are most at risk and see how they are doing.
– If they require an essential errand, see how you can help.
